Sanya Fails to Sign Hosting Agreement!
To Ironman athletes everywhere:
Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to motivate the officials of Sanya to sign the Ironman China hosting agreement we negotiated in late July. After nearly eight weeks of delay, face-to-face meetings, and pressure exerted from Beijing, the continuing inability or unwillingness of Sanya officials to execute the contract has put us in a no-win situation--Not only are Ironman athletes in need of a firm commitment so they could plan their races for 2007, but we, the organizers, needed a signed contract to proceed with the mountain of preparation required to stage a successful race in China.
Faced with ongoing and open-ended delays on the contract issue, we had no choice but to withdraw our proposal, in which we gave Sanya everything they asked for. And we did so only after giving the city a final opportunity in which to present us with a contract for signature.
After the cancellation of last year (thanks to ITU’s efforts to prevent the Chinese from sanctioning Ironman events), we were committed to getting back on track for an April 28 race in 2007. So it is with genuine regret and frustration that we have to once again disappoint so many of you who have expressed your desire to race in Ironman China. I can assure you that our decision to end the negotiations with Sanya was not an easy one for us to make. But the die is now cast, and we will immediately begin discussions with three other cities, any one of which we believe will prove to be a better host and business partner for Ironman China in 2008.源自:我爱单车 作者:傅先生
