We are just informed by the Chinese Government that it will not sanction Ironman China due to certain international restrictions. While we believe that these restrictions will be removed in the near future, we are unable to do any event planning without this sanction given the realities of organizing events in China. Therefore, we have made the decision to cancel the 2006 Ironman China and focus on overcoming existing restrictions and planning for a 2007 race.
Our sincerest apologies to those intended to participate. Entry fees for all athletes currently registered for the 2006 will be automatically refunded by credit payments back to the originating accounts. Refunds will be made as soon as possible. Athletes are not required to take any action to obtain their refunds. In addition, all athletes who have registered for the 2006 event will receive a $50.00 (USD) discount on their registration fee should they register for Ironman China 2007.
Please be assured that these circumstances were not of our making and beyond our control. We made every effort overcome this last-minute obstacle. We are most grateful for the incredible support given this first year event by the Ironman community. We promise to be back again next year and hope you’ll be ready to give Ironman China another look. If Ironman is about anything, it’s about persistence in the face of obstacles that seem insurmountable.
