The Summer Palace

　　The Summer Palace, which is in the northwest of Beijing, is the largest and best preserved imperial garden in China. The fourth Qing emperor Qian Long named it QingyiyuanDuring the Second Opium War, it was destroyed by fire in 1860. In 1888 Ci Xi spent an enormous amount of money in building it and named it Yiheyuan. In 1900 it was badly damaged again by foreign troops. In 1924, the Summer Palace was opened as a public park.
　　The park mainly includes two parts: Wanshoushan and Kunming Lake. Wanshoushan is the focal point of the garden. On the hill, there is a big palace with many halls, towers, rooms and a great pavilion. Along the lake is the Long Corridor. It is 728 meters along the northern shore.
